Schuylkill Food Network
The mission of the Schuylkill Food Network is to empower the local communities of Schuylkill County in their efforts to provide food for all area residents that find themselves in need. This mission is accomplished through the coordination of resources, both private and public, that provide food for local distribution.
Local volunteers operate 20 food pantries throughout Schuylkill County. Although each pantry operates independently, they are committed to be a part of the Schuylkill Food Network.
Food is provided for the pantries through local contributions and public food programs operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
SCA staff provide food items acquired through the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to each local pantry. County residents, within certain income guidelines, are eligible to receive food from SFPP & TEFAP once every two months.
In some communities, donated food allows for food to be available during the “off months” for those in need of ongoing assistance, or in the event of an emergency. SCA will also directly assist any county resident facing a food emergency.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for assistance in the Schuylkill Food Network, your total household income, depending on the size of your household, must fall under these guidelines.
These numbers are based on 185% of the poverty level. Use the table to the right to check your eligibility.
Note: If the family size of the household is greater than eight (8), add the +1 income value for each additional family member.
