One Step Closer to Mobile Food Distributions

This spring, Schuylkill Community Action (SCA) reached an exciting milestone in our Mobile Expansion Initiative. In partnership with Geisinger, we purchased a new refrigerated food truck to bring food directly to communities across Schuylkill County.

In June, the truck received its final touch – bright, eye-catching artwork featuring the Schuylkill Food Network, Schuylkill Community Action, and Geisinger logos, along with the phrase “Food and Health Delivered.” This powerful message reflects our shared commitment to improving food security and supporting better health outcomes for residents throughout our county.

“With the new truck, we can extend our reach to rural and remote areas, ensuring that no one in Schuylkill County has to struggle with food insecurity due to transportation barriers,” said Dave Young, Chief Executive Officer of SCA.

The Mobile Food Distribution Initiative will allow us to deliver fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable foods directly to neighborhoods that currently lack easy access to grocery stores or food pantries. Through this partnership with Geisinger, we will combine food distribution with health-focused resources to help families thrive.

We are still finalizing distribution dates and locations, but this new truck brings us one step closer to making mobile food distributions a reality. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for upcoming announcements about when and where we’ll be hitting the road!

SCA is currently seeking Volunteer Food Pantry Coordinators to help support food distribution efforts throughout Schuylkill County.

Coordinators play a vital role in keeping local food pantries running smoothly. They assist with organizing food distributions, supporting pantry volunteers, and ensuring that neighbors facing food insecurity have access to nutritious food.

No experience is necessary – just a heart to serve and a commitment to your community. Training and support are provided to ensure you feel confident in your role.

We are currently in need of coordinators at food pantries located in: Ashland, Auburn, Girardville, Gordon, Mahanoy, McAdoo, Minersville, Orwigsburg, Port Carbon, Pottsville, St. Clair, Schuylkill Valley, Shenandoah, and Tremont.

Real Stories, Real Impact

In just a short time using PA Navigate, we’ve already been able to help community members like Mark and Anthony (names have been changed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of those we serve):

  • Mark, a single father, reached out after losing his wife. Without a working car, he was struggling to find work and provide for his two children. Through PA Navigate, we connected him with emergency food, transportation assistance, and additional programs to help his family get back on track.
  • Anthony contacted us in crisis. He had no phone, no transportation, and hadn’t eaten in weeks. Because of PA Navigate, we were able to act fast – getting him immediate food assistance and connecting him to long-term support so he wouldn’t end up in crisis again.

These stories show that PA Navigate is more than just a tool – it’s a lifeline for individuals and families across our community.
