Lancaster, PA – Schuylkill Community Action (SCA) is proud to announce that three outstanding members of our team were recognized with awards at the CAAPtivating Award Ceremony on the first evening of the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania (CAAP) Conference held in Lancaster on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The CAAP Conference is an annual two-day event that features a prestigious awards dinner and ceremony, where CAAP recognizes Community Action employees and subcontractors nominated by their peers for exemplary contributions in serving their communities.

Dave Young, SCA Executive Director

Dave was honored with the Community Action Excellence Award, recognizing his exceptional commitment, leadership, and broad-reaching impact on the community. Dave’s dedication to the Community Action mission and his impactful work in poverty alleviation were celebrated with a standing ovation from ceremony attendees. His leadership has profoundly influenced both local and statewide initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for families with low incomes.

Lisa Grigalonis, Financial Education Coach

Lisa received the CAAP Impactful Educator Award for her dedication to empowering community members through financial literacy education. Lisa’s engaging and inspiring approach has not only enhanced her students’ financial knowledge but also equipped them with essential skills for long-term success and stability. Her commitment to innovative instructional practices has significantly impacted individuals of all ages in our community.

Theresa Yurkonis, Director of Fiscal Operations

Theresa was awarded the Dependable Difference Maker Award for her steadfast dedication and the critical role she plays behind the scenes to support SCA’s mission. Theresa’s meticulous attention to detail, positive attitude, and willingness to help in any capacity have been vital to ensuring the agency’s smooth and efficient operations. Her efforts exemplify how leadership and commitment can drive success without needing to be in the spotlight.

These awards were part of CAAP’s efforts to celebrate the accomplishments of Pennsylvania Community Action agencies and their team members who exemplify the organization’s mission.
