schuylkill community action sca food network distribution truck expansion tefap reach and resiliency grant

Pottsville, PA – Schuylkill Community Action (SCA) is thrilled to announce the receipt of a $50,000 grant, which will significantly bolster the Schuylkill Food Network’s Mobile Expansion Initiative. This generous funding will enable the purchase of a large box truck essential for the initiative’s mission of delivering nutritious food to underserved rural populations across Schuylkill County.

“This TEFAP Reach and Resiliency grant is a game-changer for our community,” said Dave Young, Executive Director of Schuylkill Community Action. “With the new box truck, we can extend our reach to rural and remote areas, ensuring that no one in Schuylkill County, including our growing Latinx community, has to struggle with food insecurity due to transportation barriers. This initiative is crucial for bridging the gap in access to nutritious food and improving the well-being of all our residents.”

The Mobile Expansion Initiative will establish mobile food distribution sites in collaboration with local municipalities, particularly targeting rural areas that lack adequate public transportation and access to retail food options. This strategic expansion is set to significantly impact the county’s food insecurity rates, providing a consistent supply of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and other food commodities to those most in need.
